Les Houches is a village located in Chamonix valley, in the French Alps. Established in 1951, the Physics School is situated at 1150 m above sea level in natural surroundings, with breathtaking views on the Mont-Blanc mountain range.<\/p>\n

Les Houches Physics School is UMS 2002 run by Universit\u00e9 Grenoble Alpes (UGA). The 5 school partners of are UGA, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Commissariat \u00e0 l\u2019Energie Atomique (CEA), the Institut National Polytechnique (Grenoble-INP), and the Ecole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon).<\/p>\n

It can be easily reached either by plane from Geneva airport or by train from Les Houches main railway station (various fast train from Paris)<\/p>\n

By plane<\/h2>\n

Geneva Airport<\/a> is 1 hour drive from les Houches.
\nOnce you have landed, you can reach the school using a shuttle service, the regular bus service or by train.<\/p>\n

Shuttle service<\/h2>\n

The simplest way is to use a shuttle service (approximately 40 euros up to the school, book at least three days in advance). If you already have your return date, we would recommend to book a return trip.<\/p>\n

Beware: we\u00a0do not recommend\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0Alpybus\u00a0<\/strong>company (they do not reach the school).<\/p>\n

Regular bus service<\/h2>\n

There is also a regular bus service<\/a> between Geneva and Les Houches (only once or twice a day). One should then take a taxi for the last 5 kms from the Les Houches village to the school (the total cost is similar to that of the limousine).<\/p>\n

Train<\/h2>\n

One can also travel from Geneva to Les Houches by train (+ taxi from the train station to the School), but it is quite complicated (3 connections) and long (go through Annemasse on the French side or through Martigny on the Swiss side).<\/p>\n

By train<\/h2>\n

Arrival at the Les Houches station, with one change at Saint-Gervais (from France), or at Martigny (from Switzerland).
\nThere are about 10 trains per day between St Gervais and Les Houches (schedules<\/a>, 20mn trip).
\nThen we strongly advise you to take a taxi to go up to the school (5km).<\/p>\n

By road Les Houches are easily accessible from France (A41 highway), from Switzerland (Martigny and Col des Montets) and from Italy through the Mont Blanc Tunnel.<\/p>\n

From Geneva and Le Fayet<\/h4>\n

8km before Chamonix, 300 m after passing under the tunnel, bear right by the first road out for \u00ab\u00a0Les Houches Bellevue\u00a0\u00bb. When arriving at the cable car station \u00ab\u00a0Bellevue\u00a0\u00bb, turn right and continue upwards (roughly 2 km starting from the teleferic). 500m after the cable car station \u00ab\u00a0Prarion\u00a0\u00bb, turn left and follow small arrows at crossroads. Continue up to the end of Route de la C\u00f4te des Chavants. Here you are!<\/p>\n

From Chamonix<\/h4>\n

Bear right for \u00ab\u00a0Les Houches-Chef-Lieu\u00a0\u00bb, turn right in Les Houches, go ahead at the cable car station \u00ab\u00a0Bellevue\u00a0\u00bb. Then proceed as above.<\/p>\n

Cars may be rented from Geneva and from Chamonix, it is useful to make a reservation.<\/p>\n
